If you receive the Unable to Connect message when starting a new game, something on your local network is preventing the game and/or its website from connecting to the game servers. You should be able to open these ports with a few changes to your device or router.

Open Ports on PC/Mac

For Windows:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Type Settings.
  3. Click Network & Internet.
  4. Click Windows Firewall.
  5. Select Advanced settings, and then select Inbound Rules in the left pane.
  6. Right-click Inbound Rules, and then select New Rule.
  7. Select Port, and then click Next.
  8. Select TCP as the protocol to apply the rule.
  9. Select Specific Local Ports, add the following ports:
    TCP: 843, 943, 4520, 4530-4533, 4540, 9090-9092
    UDP: 5055-5057, 27000-27001
  10. Click Next.
  11. Select Allow the connection.
  12. Leave Domain, Private, and Public checked to apply the rule to all types of networks.
  13. Name the rule something meaningful (i.e. RiffTrax), and then click Finish.

Note: The above steps are for Windows 10 and may vary on other versions.

For Mac:

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Open Security & Privacy.
  3. Open Firewall.
  4. Open Firewall Options.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Search for the RiffTrax: The Game app from the Applications folder and click Add.
  7. Ensure that the option next to the application is set to Allow incoming connections.

If that does not resolve your issue, do the following steps:
